Your private tour will start with pick-up from Taormina to Ortigia, your first stop and known as the most ancient center of Syracuse. One of the places you are going to tour during this trip is the old Cathedral, placed directly on top of the ruins of the famous Temple of Minerva, that once was queen here.
Now, in the contemporary period, it didn’t operate as a site for pagan worship at all-the once existing columns as well as stepped foundation merged alongside the former into a complete Baroque-style Byzantine cathedral. Explore Neapolis Park in the old city of Syracuse You’ll go on with the visit in the heart of Syracuse, a city that has influenced western Sicily to a great extent through the varied impacts of the most prominent civilizations of the ancient world: Greeks and Romans. The Neapolis archaeological park is established on the heap of remnants of what once was Magna Graecia’s capital. This bleak site is situated on topographically Temenite Hill, setting northeast of it has several ancient ruins of Greek structures and monuments, mainly it’s Greek Theater. It may have been extended during construction in the 5th century B.C., all done alternately rock-cutting phases: that original building phase might have had around 1,200-1,400 sitting positions available. In the southern part of the archaeological park, the visitor finds the Latomie. Originally caves, it was in these quarries that highly quality limestone was extracted; however, this was not their only function! These and similar places also were made to serve as prisons where countless enslaved people were kept for long periods. Most famous among these is the Ear of Dionysus, a name which is a derived resemblance to the shape of an ear pinna. The name is further enriched by a legend recounted by the author Caravaggio, who suggests that the tyrant Dionysus had it built so that he could imprison his adversaries within the cave and then from outside eavesdrop on their conversations.
