From ancient Greeks to Russians
Inside the magnificent and baroque frame of Leoni Montanari Palace in Vicenza, there are three different Intesa Sanpaolo collections: the collection of Attic and Greek ceramics, the 18th century Venetian art collection and the collection of Russian icons.
The first collection will allow you to admire more than 500 finds of various shapes and sizes from the necropolis of Ruvo di Puglia, in the province of Bari; wonderful mythological events skillfully represented by the famous technique of red-figure on a black background ceramics, testify the production of West Greece between the VI and III centuries BC.
The second collection is made up of 34 works sorted by iconographic themes representing the development and success of painting of the Venetian school in the 18th century: from the wonderful views of Francesco Guardi and Francesco Zuccarelli to the elegant characters of Pietro Longhi.
It ends the visit one of the Russian sacred art collections existing in the West and housed on the second floor of this palace; over 400 works depicting the development of the different stages of Russian painting, from the Middle Ages to the Modern Age, and among these there are two notable icons of Novgorod, the Descent to Hell and the Ascension to the sky of the Prophet Elijah.
