The catacombs are underground areas that arose in the late second and early third centuries AD, used for the burial and burial commemoration of members of the Christian community. Some of these rooms are richly decorated, while others housed the tombs of martyrs who attracted the devotion of numerous pilgrims during the Middle Ages.
