New paths in an ancient palace
Visit the imposing Bishops’ Palace in Pistoia dating back to the XI century where luckily, despite numerous interventions, nothing of the ancient splendor has been lost; your visit will start immersing yourself in the mysterious underground of the building where you can admire an archaeological path that makes visible the various stratifications of the city, a beautiful Etruscan funeral stone of the VI/V century BC and many coins and utensils. Here you can walk over what were once the old Roman roads and know the objects and habits of their everyday lives.
Then passing by a fascinating tactile path, dedicated to blind and sighted people, you will discover the models of the main monuments of the city, a new and exciting experience to perceive the art and the history around us.
The rooms in the palace also host the wonderful Museum of the San Zeno Cathedral with furniture and liturgical vestments, among which stands out the precious fifteenth-century reliquary by Lorenzo Ghiberti preserved inside the San Jacopo Sacristy. On the first floor you can admire the original fourteenth-century frescoes inside the Chapel of St Nicholas as well as a room dedicated to a cycle of tempera frescoes by Giovanni Boldini (coming from a room of Villa La Falconiera) and a newer section of seventeenth-century paintings of the Bigongiari Collection.
From ancient to modern, a majestic building in the heart of Pistoia that will allow you to discover some hidden beauties of the city.
