The Civic Museum is located inside the medieval Palazzo della Residenza which has undergone various changes over the years becoming, for example, in 1371 the private home of the Malatesta family. Thanks to some restoration works, ancient spaces have been recovered in the basement and on the top floor.
The Palace started to be a museum around 1460, when in the "Sala dei Conservatori" Piero della Francesca frescoed his Resurrection, a work that became the symbol of the city, but the Museum was officially inaugurated in 1975.
The famous Bassano painters were then called to paint the "Cappella della Residenza" and during the course of the years, works and engravings by famous artists were acquired to enrich the museum's collection, as well as artworks from suppressed religious corporations.

The visit covers three levels and starts on the ground floor from the "Sala del Camino" (Fireplace Room, so called due to the presence of a 17th century fireplace). On the first floor there are frescoes detached from some churches of Sansepolcro that represent an important testimony of local painting; you can admire masterpieces by Piero della Francesca, like the already mentioned Resurrection, the Polyptych of the Madonna della Misericordia, the San Giuliano and the San Ludovico. Of particular importance are also the beautiful glazed potteries by Della Robbia family, the fresco with the Martyrdom of San Quintino by Pontormo, as well as works by Santi di Tito and Raffaellino del Colle.

1. The ticket is valid all day until closing time of the Museum starting from entrance time.

2. The entrance time written on the tickets may be subject to small changes depending on the actual availability of the Museum.

3. For a satisfying experience it is recommended to reserve at least 1 hour and half to visit the Museum.

4. The tickets will be sent via email within 24-48 hours after purchase (on weekdays) with instructions on how to get there and what to do to enter.

5. We inform you that, once booked, the date and time selected are binding. Please pick up your ticket at least 15 minutes before the reserved entrance. Who does not respect the time booked will not enter.

6. The Museum has a maximum capacity of people, in some periods of the year or special days you may experience short delays or waits not dependent on the Museum or Italy Tickets.
